Ever make a burrito and think to yourself, “wow, chinese table pamphlet.”
Sometimes we all get there.
There is a gross amount (large and disgusting) of work that comes from the studio that is both interesting but unfortunately doesn’t have a home. When designing for clients there are large amounts of work left on the table. Conversely, making work for other purposes leaves items in a halfway world of created but not seen or used. There’s a lot to make in life, and not every piece will make it into the white cube. Making work has a grand place among purpose. The maker, the user, the creator, each lives a life specific to them. By placing work in a new threshold of availability I take pieces that I would normally not place in the hands of clients or galleries and instead hand them to everyone. In this sense they become better than work that has a specific purpose, because they beg interpretation from society instead of the individual.
